FAQ

  1. What does Kompressor provide me?
  2. Kompressor provides you compression of traffic between two or more locations, which gives you more overall capacity with your existing bandwidth between those locations.

  3. What amount of additional bandwidth should I expect from deploying Kompressor?
  4. The Kompressor product can give you up to 3 times more overall bandwidth (capacity).
  5. How much additional latency or delay will Kompressor put on my network traffic?
  6. Virtually none. The Kompressor takes less than 30 microseconds (.030 milliseconds) to process a packet.
  7. Will the compression/decompression result in any loss of data?
  8. We use a lossless compression algorithm, so absolutely no data is lost when the data is compressed and decompressed.
  9. I have multiple locations connected to my corporate Data Center. Do I need to install multiple Kompressors in my Data Center or can I use just a larger capacity Kompressor?
  10. You would only need to install a single larger capacity Kompressor at the Data Center and a single Kompressor at each of the remote locations.
  11. Can I get FatPipe’s Kompressor technology and also the multiple WAN Link Load-balancing / Auto-failover functionality, like that available in your other products, in a single FatPipe box or appliance?
  12. Yes, we will have this feature available as an option in our IPVPN product in the near future.
  13. Can locations with Kompressor units still communicate with locations that do not have a Kompressor unit?
  14. Yes, the Kompressor will only affect traffic for which it is setup to compress/decompress. All other traffic will simply be forwarded without modification.
  15. Can I have both private and public WAN connections going through a single Kompressor box at the same time?
  16. Yes, the Kompressor will only affect traffic for which it is setup to compress/decompress. All other traffic will simply be forwarded without modification.
  17. How will Kompressor technology affect my VoIP traffic?
  18. Real-time traffic like Voice over IP (VoIP) will not be affected since the compression/decompression time is negligible (less than 30 microseconds).
  19. I already employ a “packet-shaping” QoS product, will the Kompressor still provide the same level of bandwidth savings?
  20. Yes, the compression/decompression would happen outside of the Quality of Service (QoS) product.
  21. Will Kompressor provide the same bandwidth benefits if I only have one location?
  22. No, you must have a Kompressor product at each location. They work together to provide compression and decompression of traffic.
